Nepali Congress Postpones Janakpur Madhes Assembly After Election Code Takes Effect

The Nepali Congress has deferred its Madhes assembly in Janakpur following the enforcement of the election code of conduct that restricts campaign activities before Falgun 4.

The Nepali Congress has postponed its Madhes assembly that was scheduled to take place in Janakpur on Magh 16. Party leaders, including President Gagan Thapa, were earlier set to travel to the Madhes region on Magh 11, with plans to hold the assembly in Janakpur five days later.

However, the program was put on hold after the Election Commission stated that candidates are not allowed to carry out election campaigns, public meetings, or rallies before Falgun 4, as the election code of conduct is already in force.

The Election Commission implemented the code of conduct starting from the day before the registration of nominations for the House of Representatives election. Candidate nominations were registered on Magh 6.

According to a Nepali Congress leader, the new date for the Madhes assembly will be decided after further internal discussions. Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa is contesting the House of Representatives election from Sarlahi–4.
