Nepal Oil Corporation will resume nationwide sales of standard 14.2-kilogram LPG cylinders from Wednesday, reversing the temporary distribution of half-filled cylinders introduced during recent supply difficulties.

The decision responds to growing pressure from households seeking regular-sized cylinders for daily cooking. Full-weight cylinders will be available through depots and authorised dealers across the country at a consumer price of Rs 2,060 each.

The corporation announced the arrangement in a press statement issued on Tuesday after Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav directed officials to ensure the distribution of full-weight cylinders.

Loading situation improves in India

The corporation said LPG loading conditions at Indian Oil Corporation bottling plants and refineries have improved.

Technical and management-related difficulties that had disrupted the supply chain are being resolved gradually, allowing the flow of cooking gas into Nepal to become more stable.

Half-weight cylinders had been sent to the market as an emergency response when regular supplies became difficult. The arrangement, however, created uncertainty among consumers, many of whom continued to demand the standard 14.2-kilogram refill used in most households.

Restoring full-weight cylinders is expected to reduce some of the pressure visible in the market. It also gives consumers greater clarity over how much gas they are purchasing and how long a cylinder can be expected to last under regular use.

Distribution will remain the real test

The return of standard cylinders is not only a supply decision. Its impact will depend on whether the gas reaches retailers consistently and is sold at the official price without artificial shortages.

With demand still high, stronger monitoring of depots, distributors and retail outlets will be necessary to prevent traders from using the recent disruption to charge more or withhold stock for unfair gain.

The corporation expects the improved loading situation and nationwide sale of full cylinders to ease public concern. Consumers will now be able to purchase a 14.2-kilogram LPG cylinder for Rs 2,060.
