Two Killed, Nine Injured After Election Officials’ Vehicle Falls 100 Meters in Ramechhap, Nepal

Two people died and nine were injured when a vehicle transporting election officials and ballot papers veered off a road and fell 100 meters in Ramechhap district, Nepal, officials confirmed.

Two people were killed and nine others injured on Monday after a vehicle carrying election officials and security personnel plunged approximately 100 meters off a road in Ramechhap district, authorities said.

The deceased were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector of Nepal Police Parshuram Yadav and 57-year-old Dor Prasad Ghimire. The accident occurred in Siruwari, Ward No. 2 of Ramechhap Municipality, when a Nissan vehicle bearing registration number Na 7 Kha 6768 veered off the road and fell down a steep slope.

According to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, the vehicle was transporting ballot papers to polling stations at Shitaldevi Secondary School in Siruwari and the Ward Office building in Ward No. 3 of Ramechhap Municipality at the time of the crash.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate the vehicle lost control while attempting to negotiate a bend in the road. Rescue operations were carried out by a team led by Inspector Kamal Raut of the District Police Office, Ramechhap, along with personnel from the Armed Police Force’s Disaster Response Base in Khurkot.

The injured were initially transported to the district headquarters in Manthali. Seven of the injured were later airlifted to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army helicopter for further treatment. Authorities have not yet released detailed information about their medical condition.

Officials said an investigation into the incident is ongoing. The accident occurred amid preparations for upcoming elections in the district.
