Mamta Sharma, the founding chairperson of the Madhes Province committee of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has resigned from the party, relinquishing even her general membership with immediate effect.
Sharma announced her decision on Wednesday through a public statement. She was also serving as a member of the party’s Women and Social Development Department at the time of her resignation.
She stated that her decision was prompted by dissatisfaction with the party’s approach to the upcoming election scheduled for Falgun 21, as well as concerns regarding the party’s internal decision-making process and working style.
Concerns Over Party Principles and Internal Functioning
In her statement, Sharma said recent actions and decisions of the party were inconsistent with its founding values, official statute, and public commitments made at the time of its establishment.
She alleged that party activities were not being conducted in accordance with established procedures and regulations, and that the contributions of capable grassroots members who had worked tirelessly for the organization were not being properly recognized.
Sharma further stated that the party’s declared principles were not being implemented in practice, creating circumstances that affected her self-respect and political values.
Allegations of Financial Influence in Decision-Making
Sharma also accused the party of allowing financial irregularities to influence its decisions. “I cannot remain silent as a witness to activities that go against the party’s principles and undermine the contributions of committed members,” she said in the statement.
She confirmed that her resignation takes effect immediately and that she will no longer remain even an ordinary member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. The party leadership has not yet issued a formal response regarding her resignation.
