A scooter rider was killed in Banepa morning after a collision with a tipper truck along the Araniko Highway, triggering unrest as local residents set the vehicle on fire, police said.
The accident occurred near the Nepal Telecommunications office in Banepa. According to preliminary police information, a tipper truck bearing registration number Bagmati Province 01004 Ka 3423 struck a scooter (Bagmati Province 02-063 Pa 9189).
The scooter rider sustained critical injuries and later died during treatment, authorities confirmed. Another individual traveling on the scooter was injured and is receiving medical care.
Following the fatal collision, a large number of residents gathered at the scene. Despite police efforts to disperse the crowd and maintain order, locals set the tipper truck ablaze. The incident temporarily disrupted traffic along the Araniko Highway.
Security has since been tightened, with additional police personnel deployed to prevent further disturbances. An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway. Police said legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.
