Kathmandu — Nepali Congress Co-General Secretary Prakash Rasaily has said the Nepali Congress is on course to secure a clear majority in the upcoming House of Representatives election.
Congress Confident of Majority, Thapa Tipped as Prime Minister
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Rasaily said the party expects to win a comfortable majority in the parliamentary election scheduled for February 21, allowing it to form the next government smoothly. He added that senior party leader Gagan Thapa would become Nepal’s next prime minister once the election process is completed.
Rasaily said the Nepali Congress has entered the election united, noting that internal differences within the party have been addressed by accommodating various groups. He said that, given the current national situation, Thapa is the leader best suited to steer the country forward while maintaining balanced relations with other nations.
Party Unity, Youth Agenda, and Election Strategy
According to Rasaily, the party has renewed itself and is now moving ahead with a broader vision to bring change to the country. He said the Nepali Congress is committed to reducing youth migration by creating jobs at home and strengthening governance through improved accountability.
Reiterating his claim, Rasaily said that Gagan Thapa would assume leadership of the country after February 21. He added that the party is campaigning with a focus on strengthening its election symbol, the tree.
On the issue of ticket distribution, Rasaily said leaders from all major factions of the party—including those close to former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Shekhar Koirala—have been treated fairly.
He said the unity, leadership, and policy direction of the Nepali Congress have positioned the party strongly for the upcoming election.
