RSP to Hold Central Committee Meeting Today on Parliamentary Party Leader Selection

Rastriya Swatantra Party is set to hold a central committee meeting in Kathmandu to discuss the selection of its parliamentary party leader and review statutory provisions.

Kathmandu — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) will hold a central committee meeting on Thursday at 4:00 PM at its central office in Chahmati, party spokesperson Manish Jha said. The meeting will focus on selecting the parliamentary party leader and reviewing provisions of the party’s statute related to the process.

The schedule follows the Federal Parliament Secretariat’s decision to administer the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected lawmakers at 2:00 PM on Thursday. The party’s central committee meeting is expected to take place shortly after the oath-taking ceremony.

Prior to the elections, RSP had proposed senior leader Balen Shah as its candidate for prime minister. According to the party’s current statute, provisions under Clause 66 (8) (a) and (b) outline that the parliamentary party leader should be elected from among directly elected and proportional representation candidates who express interest, with all general members eligible to vote.

Party leaders have indicated that discussions will also include a possible amendment to this provision to allow the senior leader to be proposed directly as parliamentary party leader. RSP secured close to a two-thirds majority in the recent House of Representatives elections.
