Nepal Lawmakers to Take Oath at 2 PM Thursday in Kathmandu

Newly elected members of Nepal’s House of Representatives are set to take the oath of office and secrecy at 2 PM Thursday, with preparations completed at Singha Durbar.

Kathmandu — Newly elected members of Nepal’s House of Representatives will take the oath of office and secrecy on Thursday at 2:00 PM, the Federal Parliament Secretariat confirmed, stating that all preparations for the ceremony have been completed.

Oath Ceremony and Leadership Role

The oath will be administered by the senior-most member of the House, Arjun Narsingh KC. Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri said the schedule has been finalized. President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to KC on Wednesday.

Venue, Language Diversity and Legal Provisions

The ceremony will take place at the newly constructed multipurpose hall in Singha Durbar. According to the Secretariat, 47 members are set to take the oath in languages other than Nepali, including 17 members in Maithili.

The oath will be administered in accordance with Article 99 and Clause (5) of Article 91 of the Constitution of Nepal, as well as Section 75 of the House of Representatives Member Election Act, 2017.

Preparation Guidelines and Election Results

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has requested all members to arrive at least two hours before the ceremony, carrying their certificates of election issued by the Election Commission, copies of their Nepali citizenship certificates, and two recent passport-sized photographs.

Members have also been requested to attend in formal attire or dress reflecting their cultural identity. Arrangements including seating, rostrum, the Speaker’s chair, and designated spaces for the Secretary General, secretaries, and Secretariat staff have been completed at the venue.

In the Falgun 21 House of Representatives election, the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured 182 seats, followed by the Nepali Congress with 38 seats, CPN-UML with 25 seats, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) with 17 seats, Shram Sanskriti Party secured seven seats, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party with five seats.
