Nepali Congress Provides Rs 500,000 for Treatment of Captain Sabitra Bhandari

Nepali Congress has provided Rs 500,000 in financial assistance to support the medical treatment of Nepal national women’s football team captain Sabitra Bhandari, widely known as “Samba.”

Bhandari is currently preparing for a complex knee surgery following serious ligament injuries. Medical assessments have indicated complications in the graft placed during her previous anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery, along with a severe injury to her medial collateral ligament (MCL). The upcoming procedure is expected to be extensive.

The party stated that the financial support was provided to assist with her treatment expenses. Nepali Congress Vice President Bishwo Prakash Sharma held a telephone conversation with the President of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), expressing the party’s commitment to contribute to the player’s treatment fund.

In accordance with that commitment, Rs 500,000 was deposited into ANFA’s account at Global IME Bank Limited, the party confirmed.

Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa praised Bhandari’s contribution to enhancing Nepal’s international sporting reputation and said that national support is essential during this difficult period. He also expressed his wishes for her speedy recovery, both personally and on behalf of the party.

Nepali Congress reiterated its position that sports extend beyond entertainment and play a significant role in strengthening national identity and encouraging youth participation in nation-building.
