Kathmandu — The Nepal Election Commission has issued fresh instructions to officials responsible for monitoring the Election Code of Conduct, directing them to ensure strict enforcement until polling stations close on voting day. The House of Representatives election is scheduled for Falgun 21.
To strengthen implementation of the Election Code of Conduct, the Commission has appointed Assistant Chief District Officers and heads of Treasury and Comptroller Offices as Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers, assigning separate responsibilities within their respective districts.
The Commission has instructed monitoring officials to conduct close oversight to ensure full compliance with all provisions of the Election Code of Conduct from now through Falgun 21.
Under Section 17 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 (2025), special restrictions come into effect 48 hours before polling day and remain in force until voting concludes and polling centers are closed. During this period, campaigning and any activities intended to influence voters are prohibited.
The Commission has directed officials to intensify district-level monitoring to ensure proper enforcement of the rules on polling day.
It stated that any violations of the Election Code of Conduct or the Election (Offenses and Punishment) Act, 2073 (2017) will be addressed in accordance with the law, in coordination with District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committees.
The Nepal Election Commission has urged political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to refrain from engaging in or facilitating activities prohibited during the silence period, emphasizing the importance of maintaining electoral integrity and ensuring voters can cast their ballots freely.
