Kathmandu — Police in Nepal have launched an investigation after a jeep driver was seen allegedly assaulting a pedestrian on a public road in Kathmandu, according to officials.
A video circulating on social media shows a man stepping out of a jeep bearing registration number Ba.3 Cha 1103 and striking a pedestrian walking along the roadside. The footage has gone viral, prompting authorities to initiate formal inquiries.
Police Confirm Investigation
Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range said the investigation began after authorities became aware of the video online. “The incident is understood to have taken place within the Kathmandu Valley. We are conducting an investigation,” Bhattarai said.
Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the video, identifying the exact location, and determining the individuals involved.
Video Shows Roadside Confrontation
The footage shows including public buses and taxis, before the jeep stops. A man, believed to be the driver, exits the vehicle and confronts the pedestrian. He is heard using abusive language before slapping the individual twice.
A woman accompanying him is also heard making aggressive remarks toward the pedestrian. The circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear. The video has sparked widespread reaction on social media, with users criticizing the alleged assault and calling for accountability.
Police officials said further evidence is being collected and that legal action will proceed in accordance with Nepal’s laws following the completion of the investigation.
