Jitendranarayan Dev Rejoins Nepali Congress After Leaving CPN-UML in Nepal

itendranarayan Dev has rejoined the Nepali Congress after recently leaving the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), according to a statement he issued on Tuesday.

Dev said he decided to return to the Nepali Congress following the party’s Special National Convention, which adopted new policies, plans and commitments and elected new leadership.

In his statement, he said he welcomed, supported and embraced the policies and proposals endorsed by the convention and expressed full commitment to the Central Working Committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa. He also stated that other leaders have returned to the Nepali Congress along with him.

Political History and Party Affiliations in Nepal

Dev has been associated with multiple political parties during his career. He was previously a leader in the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and was elected a Central Committee member during the party’s sixth National Convention held in Nepalgunj in 2054 BS.

In 2063 BS, he left the UML and joined the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum led by Upendra Yadav. Following a split in the Forum, he aligned with Bijay Kumar Gachhadar and became part of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic). When the Forum (Democratic) later merged with the Nepali Congress, Dev also joined the Congress.

Departure From CPN-UML and Return to Nepali Congress

On Asar 17, 2081 BS, Dev left the Nepali Congress and rejoined the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist. He resigned from the UML on Magh 19 2081 BS and had since remained largely inactive in party politics.

In his Tuesday statement, Dev said he believes the policies and leadership elected by the Special National Convention will advance social and political transformation in Nepal. No additional details were provided regarding his future role within the party.
