Gagan Thapa Says Nepali Congress Is New Political Alternative, Urges Youth Mobilization in Sarlahi

Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa said in Sarlahi that the party represents a new political alternative, urging youth participation and highlighting education, health, irrigation and a five-year “Project Government” plan.

Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa said voters seeking a new political alternative should consider the Nepali Congress, stating that the party has combined its historical legacy with renewed leadership and updated policy direction.

Speaking at a public gathering in Dhankaul, Sarlahi, Thapa said that if voters want to support a new party and new leadership, the Nepali Congress represents that choice. He said the party has carried forward its legacy while introducing policies and leadership aligned with the present political context.

Youth Must Take Responsibility for the Nation

Thapa said Nepal’s future rests on the shoulders of young people and expressed encouragement at the strong participation of youth, particularly members of Generation Z, at the event.

“In the past, people used to ask where the youth were,” he said. “But seeing young people here in Dhankaul today, especially from Generation Z, makes me very happy. I respect their ideas and capabilities.”

He said young citizens must actively participate in shaping the country’s future and take responsibility in political engagement rather than remain passive observers.

Education, Health and Irrigation Key Issues in Madhes

Highlighting regional priorities, Thapa identified education, healthcare and irrigation as the main challenges facing districts in the Madhes region, including Sarlahi. He said strengthening the foundation of Madhes requires urgent attention to these sectors, with education playing a particularly important role.

He urged young supporters to engage their families and communities in discussions about the Nepali Congress and its agenda. “There is a situation where one youth must explain the Congress to at least five family members,” he said, adding that he has conveyed the same message to his party team.

‘Project Government’ Outlines Five-Year Governance Plan

Thapa said the Nepali Congress has both the enthusiasm and experience required to lead the country. He said the party has prepared a detailed governance framework outlining what it intends to accomplish within five years if given the opportunity to form the government.

According to him, the plan — referred to as “Project Government” — is based on study and research across sectors. “If given the opportunity to lead the country, we are prepared with a clear plan of what to do in five years,” Thapa said, adding that the authority to implement that plan rests with voters across the country.

He concluded by urging voters in Sarlahi and nationwide to entrust the Nepali Congress with the responsibility of national leadership.
