Dinesh Humagain Resigns as RSP Bagmati Vice Chair, Alleges Internal Irregularities in Candidate Selection

Kathmandu — Dinesh Humagain, Vice Chair of the Bagmati Province committee of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has resigned from the party, outlining seven points of dissatisfaction related to its internal functioning.

In his statement, Humagain said the party was not operating in accordance with its principles and procedures. He stated that individuals involved since the party’s founding had been undervalued, while newcomers were allegedly prioritized on the basis of financial influence.

Humagain had sought the party’s nomination to contest the House of Representatives seat from Kavre-2 in the upcoming election. The RSP, however, nominated Badan Bhandari for the constituency. In the previous election, Humagain contested from Kavre-2 against CPN-UML leader Gokul Baskota and received 10,573 votes.

He alleged that the candidate selection process was marked by manipulation, with dedicated party members sidelined in favor of individuals closer to the leadership.

Humagain also raised concerns regarding a lack of transparency in the expansion of the party’s central structure, ambiguity in membership distribution and financial management, decisions that he said violated the party statute, weakening of internal democratic practices, and the neglect of provincial and grassroots voices. He stated that ethical accountability at the top leadership level remains a pressing issue.

On Wednesday, Mamata Sharma, the founding chair of RSP in Madhesh Province, also resigned from the party and joined the Nepali Congress. The developments have prompted renewed scrutiny of internal governance and leadership practices within the party.
