Bus Fire in Kapilvastu Destroys Kathmandu–Surkhet Passenger Bus; All 44 Passengers Safe
A Kathmandu–Surkhet passenger bus was completely destroyed after catching fire in Kapilvastu district. Police confirmed that all 44 passengers escaped unharmed, and an investigation is ongoing.
A passenger bus traveling from Kathmandu to Surkhet was completely destroyed after it caught fire while in motion in Kapilvastu district on Thursday morning, police said. All 44 passengers on board escaped without injury.
The incident occurred along the Hulaki Highway section of the Taulihawa–Bhairahawa road at Titihiriya in Shuddhodan Rural Municipality–6. The bus, registered as Na 7 Kha 6048, caught fire after flames suddenly erupted from the left-side wheel while it was moving.
The driver immediately pulled the vehicle to the roadside, allowing passengers to disembark safely before the fire intensified.
Local residents, police personnel and a fire engine dispatched from Kapilvastu Municipality responded to the scene. Despite efforts to contain the blaze, the bus was completely gutted within approximately 30 minutes.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ripendra Kumar Singh, spokesperson for the District Police Office Kapilvastu, confirmed that there were no human casualties. Police said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and that further investigation is underway.
