Students affiliated with the CPN-UML took their protest to the South Gate of Singha Durbar on Wednesday morning, briefly disrupting traffic outside the country’s main administrative complex.

The group from the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union arrived under the leadership of Deepak Dhami and other student leaders. They parked motorcycles near the gate and chanted slogans accusing the state of creating fear among ordinary citizens.

Placards against silencing the poor

The protesters carried placards bearing messages including, “The voices of the poor must not be suppressed.”

Their presence outside the gate briefly affected vehicle movement on the road. The protest also turned the usually controlled entrance to Singha Durbar into a visible site of political dissent, even though the demonstration lasted only a short time.

Police reached the area soon afterwards and removed the protesters from the roadway. Traffic resumed after the road was cleared.
