Prime Minister Sushila Karki Says Power Will Transfer to Elected Representatives Ahead of Falgun Elections

Prime Minister Sushila Karki says the country’s leadership will soon be handed to representatives chosen by the people, as the government and Election Commission commit to conducting free, fair and peaceful elections in Falgun.

Kathmandu — Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that Nepal’s leadership will soon be transferred to representatives elected by the people, as the country prepares for upcoming elections scheduled for Falgun 21 and Falgun 23.

Addressing the nation on Monday in connection with the election period coinciding with Fagu Purnima, Karki stated that the government and the Election Commission are fully committed to conducting the polls in a free, fair, and fear-free environment.

“I have always tried to stand on the side of justice and integrity,” Karki said. “In just a few days, the reins of this country will be in the hands of the representatives chosen by you.”

She described her assumption of the prime minister’s responsibilities during what she called a difficult moment in the country’s history as a duty toward her motherland. Karki urged citizens to help make the Falgun 21 election peaceful, transparent, and historic.

The prime minister also said Nepal has received encouraging support and positive responses from friendly nations and international organizations for managing the election process within a short timeframe.

“I would like to thank friendly countries for providing material, financial, and technical support for election management,” she said, adding that the government is also grateful for assistance received from United Nations agencies.

According to Karki, the Election Commission has completed all preparations in line with its schedule despite time constraints and operational challenges. She added that provincial and local governments have provided important support within their jurisdictions to facilitate election preparations.

The prime minister concluded by calling for collective efforts to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly, emphasizing that the responsibility of strengthening democracy ultimately rests with the people.
