Kathmandu — Bipin Kumar Acharya, co-general secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has withdrawn his name from the party’s proportional representation candidate list. Acharya formally withdrew his name on Sunday.
He had been recommended by the RSP as the top candidate under the Khas–Arya category in the proportional representation list. The RSP has seen a series of withdrawals from its proportional representation list in recent days. With Acharya’s decision, a total of 13 candidates have so far withdrawn their names.
Explaining his decision in a social media post, Acharya said that whether addressing internal disorder within the party or tackling broader political and governance challenges in the country, working behind the scenes alone is not sufficient.
“Even if one works from behind the scenes to correct internal party disorder or the wider political and national dysfunction, there comes a day when the curtain must be torn and one must step forward,” Acharya wrote. “The country needs faces it can trust. Those who fight from the back foot are often taken for granted. That is why it is now time to play on the front foot.”
He said he has withdrawn his name from the proportional representation closed list, where he was ranked first, and has decided to move forward toward contesting a direct election. Acharya also expressed his expectation of support and cooperation in his political journey ahead.
