Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress has been elected unopposed to the National Assembly from Koshi Province after remaining the sole valid candidate in the ‘Others’ category.

Sunil Bahadur Thapa, a candidate of the Nepali Congress, has been elected unopposed from the ‘Others’ category in the National Assembly election from Koshi Province. The Election Officer’s Office in Koshi Province formally announced on Sunday that Thapa had been elected unopposed.

The office stated that his election was carried out in accordance with Section 25 of the National Assembly Member Election Act, 2075. Thapa was declared elected unopposed after he remained the only candidate for the single vacant seat under the ‘Others’ category.

A notice issued by the Election Officer stated, “As only one candidate has remained valid, the following candidate is hereby declared elected unopposed.” The elected Thapa is a former minister and a senior leader of the Nepali Congress.

While he has been elected unopposed from the ‘Others’ cluster, the Election Office has said that voting for the remaining clusters will take place as scheduled. Thapa became the sole candidate after CPN nominee Hem Raj Ghimire failed to arrive within the stipulated time to register his candidacy.
