Nepali Congress Leader Urges Deuba, Khadka to Attend Special Convention

Gururaj Ghimire has urged Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka to attend the second Special General Convention and send a message of unity.

Kathmandu — Gururaj Ghimire, a leader of the campaign demanding a special general convention of the Nepali Congress, has urged the party president and acting president to attend the convention and convey a message of unity.

Speaking at the inauguration of the second Special General Convention underway at Bhrikutimandap, Ghimire directly addressed party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, calling on them to participate in the convention.

“Standing at this historic moment, I want to appeal to the party president and the acting president,” Ghimire said. “My reservoir of bitterness has been exhausted. I have no harsh words left. Please come and help make this special convention a complete one.”

He warned against ignoring the convention, saying unity within the party would be crucial to turning the upcoming parliamentary elections into a victory. Referring to party history, Ghimire said the Nepali Congress must move forward collectively, as it did in the past under leaders such as B. P. Koirala and Subarna Shumsher, who led the party in unity.

“Even an ordinary member of the Nepali Congress carries great significance in ensuring the party’s long-term survival and a secure democratic future,” he said. “It is these members who have called for this special convention. Everyone must participate and send a message of unity.”

A total of 4,743 convention representatives from across the country are eligible to take part in the special general convention. Separate registration desks have been set up for all seven provinces, and the registration process is ongoing.

Registration is continuing at stalls near the main gate of Bhrikutimandap. Representatives have been requested to bring an official identification document, one passport-size photograph, and a registration fee of Rs 1,000.
