Ravi Lamichhane Files Proxy Candidacy in Chitwan-2 Amid Court Hearings

Ravi Lamichhane has filed his House of Representatives candidacy from Chitwan-2 through a proxy, saying ongoing hearings in three district courts prevented his physical presence.

Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Ravi Lamichhane has filed his candidacy for the House of Representatives election from Chitwan-2 through a proxy, citing ongoing court hearings in multiple districts that prevented him from being physically present.

Lamichhane said hearings related to cases against him are currently underway at the district courts of Parsa, Kathmandu, and Rupandehi. Due to the simultaneous proceedings, he said he was compelled to register his nomination through a proxy. The Parsa District Court has ordered him to furnish bail of Rs 10 million, while hearings in the other two courts are still ongoing.

Election Atmosphere Overshadowed by Legal Constraints

In a statement, Lamichhane said the country is currently immersed in an election atmosphere, with nomination registrations taking place nationwide, but circumstances have prevented him from fully participating in the process.

“The country is in election mode. Nomination registration is underway across the nation. Unfortunately, I am unable to fully join this moment today because hearings in three district courts—Parsa, Kathmandu, and Rupandehi—are taking place simultaneously,” he said.

Lamichhane added that he had just exited the Parsa District Court and that his well-wishers were waiting for him in Chitwan-2. He said he made efforts to reach the constituency in time to register his candidacy in person, but if that proved impossible, the nomination would be filed through a proxy.

Appeal to Voters and Strong Response to Allegations

He also said that the Nepali people would deliver their response to what he described as injustice against him by voting on Falgun 21, symbolized by ringing the bell election symbol.

“All the criminals of this country have gathered in one place and committed injustice against me. History is witnessing and recording how, because of this oppression, you are heading toward downfall,” he said.

“You are sinners who claim there is evidence where none exists. You are oppressors who have filed countless cases against someone who has never even walked the path of cooperatives.”

Lamichhane further said that those responsible had at least left him alive and that he would repay what he described as their ‘debt’ without vengeance. “You have left me alive—that is one favor you have done. I will repay all of you. I will repay it soon, without revenge,” he said, adding, “Once again, I say this: I am not Abhimanyu.”
