KP Sharma Oli Registers Candidacy From Jhapa–5, Alleges Obstruction During Nomination

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has officially registered his candidacy from Jhapa–5, alleging attempts to obstruct the nomination process and inappropriate conduct by RSP members.

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has officially registered his candidacy from Jhapa–5 for the House of Representatives election. Oli reached the office of the election officer on Tuesday and completed the nomination process.

Speaking to journalists afterward, he commented on incidents that took place during his arrival, alleging that members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) behaved in an inappropriate manner.

During the nomination process, a tense situation briefly developed in Damak, where supporters of the CPN-UML and the RSP came close to a confrontation. Referring to the incident, Oli said there were attempts to obstruct his nomination.

“While we were on our way to register the candidacy, efforts were made to stop us, and RSP members displayed uncivil behavior,” Oli said. “Trying to obstruct the UML will come at a cost.” He emphasized that elections should be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner and called on all political parties to respect democratic norms.

Earlier, former Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Balen Shah and Nepal Communist Party candidate Ranjit Tamang had already registered their candidacies from Jhapa–5. With multiple prominent figures entering the race, the constituency has emerged as one of the closely watched contests in the election.
