Nepali Congress senior leader Prakash Sharan Mahat has registered his candidacy for the House of Representatives election from Nuwakot Constituency No. 1. Mahat filed his nomination on Tuesday after arriving at the Office of the Chief Election Officer. This is the first time he is contesting an election from Nuwakot.
He had earlier contested the 2017 House of Representatives election from Kathmandu Constituency No. 5, where he was defeated. In the 2022 general election, the Nepali Congress nominated Pradip Paudel as its candidate from Kathmandu–5.
With Mahat entering the race from Nuwakot–1, the constituency is expected to draw greater political attention.
