Rastriya Swatantra Party Leaders in Karnali and Surkhet Resign, Join Nepali Congress

Two provincial leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Chandra Bik and Jagat Basnet, have resigned and joined the Nepali Congress in Surkhet, marking another leadership shift within the party.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has faced another setback after two senior provincial leaders resigned and joined the Nepali Congress. Chandra Bik, General Secretary of RSP’s Karnali Province committee, and Jagat Basnet, acting district chair of Surkhet, formally left the party and entered the Nepali Congress on Sunday morning.

They were welcomed during a program held in Surkhet in the presence of Nepali Congress Vice President Bishwo Prakash Sharma. Party officials said other former RSP members also joined the Congress at the same event.

The resignations come amid ongoing discussions about internal dynamics within the RSP. The departure of leaders at both provincial and district levels has drawn attention in Nepal’s political sphere.

Previously, Mamata Sharma, founding chair of RSP’s Madhesh Province committee, and Dinesh Humagain, Vice President of the party’s Bagmati Province committee, had also resigned from the RSP and joined the Nepali Congress.

Political observers say the entry of former RSP leaders may strengthen the Nepali Congress’s organizational structure at the provincial level, while raising questions about internal stability within the RSP. The central leadership of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has not issued a detailed public statement regarding the latest resignations.
