Landslides and Floods Block Major Highways Across Nepal

A massive landslide in the Daunne section of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) has completely blocked the East-West Highway, stranding vehicles and disrupting travel across Nepal. Continuous heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding and road closures in multiple provinces.

Kathmandu — Ongoing rainfall has severely disrupted daily life across several regions of Nepal, as landslides and flooding have blocked major highways. Passengers have been stranded mid-journey, and long-distance vehicles remain halted. According to the latest update from Nepal Police at 8:00 AM today, key roads in multiple provinces are either fully closed or only partially operational.

Major Landslides Block Key Highways Across Provinces

A major landslide in the Daunne section of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) in Lumbini Province has completely shut down the East-West Highway, a vital economic and transportation artery for the country. The blockage has left many vehicles stranded along the route.

In Koshi Province, heavy rainfall and flooding have caused significant damage to the transport infrastructure. The Koshi Highway in Sankhuwasabha and the Mechi Highway in Panchthar are both completely closed.

Bagmati Province is also experiencing transportation disruptions. The Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur and the Nepal–China border bridge near Gosainkunda in Rasuwa are currently closed. The Banepa–Nala–Bhaktapur section has been opened for one-way traffic under specific conditions.

Partial Openings and Ongoing Efforts to Restore Mobility

In Gandaki Province, the Baglung section of the Kaligandaki Corridor is operating one-way, while the road in the Darbang area of Myagdi is entirely blocked. In Gulmi and Rolpa districts of Lumbini Province, some highways are partially operational.

In Karnali Province, floodwaters have completely blocked several roads, including the Bheri Corridor in Dolpa and Western Rukum. Similarly, in Sudurpaschim Province, the Jayaprithvi Highway in Bajhang district is obstructed due to landslides.

Nepal Police have stated that they are working with relevant authorities to clear the affected roads. Travelers are advised to check road conditions in their intended destinations before beginning their journeys.
