Rastriya Swatanra Party lawmaker Mingma David Sherpa has returned to Kathmandu after successfully climbing Mount Everest carrying a flag bearing the logo of Nepal’s Federal Parliament.
Sherpa reached the summit of the world’s highest peak at 5:40 am last Wednesday. His expedition, carried out under the slogan “From the House to the Peak,” has drawn attention both politically and within Nepal’s mountaineering community.
After descending safely and returning to base camp, Sherpa had announced the successful ascent through Facebook, saying he completed the climb on the ninth day of the expedition.
Now back in Kathmandu, Sherpa said the journey was completed despite difficult weather conditions and the physical challenges of the mountain. He described the climb as more than a personal achievement, linking it to Nepal’s national identity and the dignity of Parliament itself.
From Parliament to Everest
Sherpa carried a flag marked with the official logo of the Federal Parliament to the summit of Sagarmatha. The symbolic gesture was presented as an attempt to connect Nepal’s democratic institution with the country’s most internationally recognized natural landmark.
Images from the summit showing the parliamentary flag quickly circulated online after being made public.
Sherpa has remained active in Himalayan expeditions for years, but this ascent carried a more visible political message compared to his earlier climbs.
Thanks to Speaker and Support Team
The RSP lawmaker thanked Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, the Parliament Secretariat, members of his support team, and well-wishers who helped make the expedition possible.
Messages congratulating Sherpa continued to spread after photos from the summit were released publicly.
