CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli is set to begin his election campaign by visiting areas of Damak in Jhapa where government and private properties were damaged during the Gen Z movement.
Party officials said Oli will inspect structures that were vandalized and set on fire in Jhapa Constituency No. 5 during incidents that took place on Bhadra 24. The visit will also include meetings with people affected by the violence.
Inspection Schedule in Damak
The inspection will start at the Area Police Office in Damak and continue to Damak Municipality, the residence of Mayor Ram Thapa, the local office of the Nepali Congress, and the residence of former mayor Romanath Oli.
Oli is also scheduled to visit the CPN-UML Damak municipal office and the residence of UML leader Buddhi Thapa. According to the UML Damak Municipal Committee, Oli will inspect the damaged structures and meet affected families between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
Candidacy Filing and Electoral Contest
Later in the day, at 1:00 p.m., Oli will file his candidacy from Jhapa-5 for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21. Party officials said inspections of the remaining damaged structures will be carried out on a later date due to other political engagements.
During the Gen Z movement, 25 government and private structures were set on fire in Jhapa Constituency No. 5, leaving a visible impact on local security and the political environment ahead of the election.
In the upcoming election from Jhapa-5, Oli will compete against Balen Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Ranjit Tamang of the Nepal Communist Party, and Sameer Tamang of the Labor Culture Party. The Nepali Congress has yet to finalize its candidate.
