Jhapa, Nepal — Vote counting in Nepal’s House of Representatives election is underway in Jhapa district, drawing nationwide attention as the contest has emerged as one of the most closely watched races in the country. The election in Jhapa has become a major focus of national interest because it features a high-profile contest involving CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli in his home district.
Among the constituencies, the race in Jhapa Constituency No. 5 has attracted the greatest attention. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Balen Shah is currently maintaining a strong lead in the vote count.
According to the latest vote tally, Shah has secured 16,980 votes, significantly ahead of his closest rival KP Sharma Oli, who has received 3,973 votes. Meanwhile, Sameer Tamang of the Shram Sanskriti Party has secured 1,829 votes so far.
The contest in Jhapa has become one of the most talked-about races in Nepal’s parliamentary election because it pits a rising political figure against one of the country’s most prominent political leaders in his own home district.
Jhapa district elects five members to the House of Representatives, and vote counting is continuing across all constituencies. Election officials say the counting process is still underway and the official final results are yet to be declared.
According to the Office of the Election Officer, results from all constituencies will be announced only after the completion of the vote counting process.
