CPN-UML Demands Nepal House of Representatives Election Be Held on Time

CPN-UML has called for Nepal’s House of Representatives election to be held on the scheduled date of Falgun 21, rejecting postponement speculation and raising concerns over election code violations.

Kathmandu — The CPN-UML has said that Nepal’s upcoming House of Representatives election must be conducted on the scheduled date of Falgun 21, rejecting discussions and speculation about a possible postponement.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, CPN-UML Election Publicity Coordinator Min Bahadur Shahi said public support for the party has been increasing and described rumors about delaying the election as inappropriate.

“At a time when the country has already entered the election process, spreading rumors about postponing the vote is inappropriate,” Shahi said. “The election must be held on time.”

Position on House Reinstatement and Court Delay

The party reiterated that its position on the reinstatement of the House of Representatives remains unchanged. It also expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the Supreme Court’s decision on the matter, urging that constitutional and legal processes be concluded clearly and in a timely manner.

During the briefing, the UML raised concerns about pre-election opinion surveys, saying public claims predicting winners and losers could mislead voters and weaken confidence in the electoral system.

Code of Conduct Concerns and Condemnation of Incidents

The party also emphasized that the election code of conduct must be strictly enforced. It drew the Election Commission’s attention to alleged violations by certain political parties and candidates, including the use of campaign materials such as T-shirts bearing candidates’ photographs.

“Violations of the code of conduct are unacceptable,” Shahi said. “If such activities are not stopped immediately, the concerned authorities must take responsibility for the consequences.”

The UML further condemned incidents in which its party flags were burned and what it described as disrespectful actions directed at its chairperson. The party stated that while political disagreement is natural in a democratic contest, acts involving insult or hostility are not acceptable.

The party said all stakeholders must act responsibly to ensure a peaceful, fair and orderly election environment.
