Election Commissioner Sagun Shumsher Rana has said that the Election Commission is fully prepared to conduct the upcoming polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner, with special monitoring measures in place to prevent violations during the election silence period.
In an interview with the National News Agency (RSS), Rana described the silence period as a crucial phase for both candidates and voters. He said the period allows candidates to step back from campaign activities and gives voters time to make an independent and informed decision. He urged political parties and candidates not to engage in any activities that violate the election code of conduct.
Rana stated that the Commission remains alert to possible attempts to influence voters during the silence period. To prevent unlawful activities, district monitoring officers and security agencies have been mobilized to ensure strict oversight. He emphasized that activities in violation of the law will not be tolerated.
Regarding polling arrangements, Rana said one polling center has been established in areas with around 1,000 registered voters, while additional centers have been set up in locations where the voter population exceeds that number to ensure easier access.
He added that priority will be given to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women and voters who are ill. The Commission has made efforts to use available resources effectively to provide a smooth and accessible voting environment.
Rana also said that additional personnel have been deployed to make the vote counting process faster and more efficient. He acknowledged that in districts with challenging geographical conditions, collecting and transporting ballot boxes to counting centers may take some time, but said improvements in manpower management are aimed at making the overall process quicker and more effective.
