Kathmandu — Nepal’s Election Commission has authorized 43 organizations to observe the House of Representatives by-election scheduled for Falgun 21 in the Nepali calendar. The Commission granted permission to three international and 40 national observer organizations after they fulfilled the required criteria and procedures.
According to the Commission, the 40 domestic observer groups have already received training to monitor key aspects of the electoral process, including compliance with the code of conduct, voting procedures, and vote counting.
Election Commissioner Sagun Shumsher Jabara, who also coordinates the Code of Conduct Monitoring and Observation Committee, said only organizations meeting the prescribed standards were approved. He stated that necessary preparations have been completed to ensure the election is conducted in a clean and orderly manner.
At the Commission’s invitation, 15 foreign delegates, including election commissioners from various countries, will also observe the by-election. They are expected to visit polling stations and review the overall electoral process.
To facilitate observation activities on polling day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has deployed 52 liaison officers to assist foreign guests, diplomatic missions, and embassy representatives, Jabara said. The Election Commission has stated that it is coordinating with all stakeholders to conduct the by-election in a peaceful and credible manner.
