Khawalung School Responds to Viral Teacher-Student Video
Khawalung School says it took administrative action following the incident and has strengthened its child-protection, monitoring and complaint-handling systems.
A few days ago, a video showing a teacher striking a student of Khawalung School with a stick and intimidating him surfaced on social media. After the video emerged, the treatment of children inside the school drew widespread criticism and public outrage.
Khoj Samachar had also published a report highlighting the scenes shown in the video, the teacher’s disturbing remarks, and serious questions concerning student safety and child protection at the school.
Following the publication of the report and the growing public discussion, the Khawalung School administration has now issued a press statement presenting its official position on the incident.
In the statement issued on 31 Ashadh 2083 BS, the school said its attention had been seriously drawn to the renewed circulation of the video on social media and various news platforms.
According to the school, the administration launched an investigation immediately after learning about the incident. It claimed that the inquiry was conducted in accordance with the school’s internal policies, existing laws, and child-protection provisions, and that necessary administrative action was taken against the person involved.
“The staff member associated with this incident is no longer employed at Khawalung School,” the statement said.
The school said it had learned from the incident and had strengthened its student-safety policies, staff code of conduct, monitoring mechanisms, and complaint-handling procedures.
It also pledged to strictly implement its child-protection policy and code of conduct, provide regular orientation to teachers and staff, and establish an effective monitoring system to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
The school stated that the safety, dignity, rights, and overall well-being of students remain its highest priorities. It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, respectful, and child-friendly learning environment.
Details of the Action Taken Were Not Disclosed
Although the school said administrative action had been taken against the staff member, it did not disclose the nature of the action. It remains unclear whether the employee was dismissed or left the school voluntarily.
The statement also did not provide the exact date of the incident, the identities of those involved in the internal investigation, the findings of the inquiry, or information about the current condition of the student seen in the video.
It also did not clarify whether the incident had been separately investigated by the police, local authorities, or any child-rights organisation.
The school thanked parents, students, concerned authorities, media organisations, and well-wishers who had expressed concern over the incident. It reiterated that it would continue working to build a responsible, safe, disciplined, and high-quality educational environment centred on the best interests of students.
The school stated in its press release, “The safety, dignity, and overall well-being of students are our foremost priorities.”
