The KP Oli arrest has pushed CPN-UML to shift its protest strategy, moving from street demonstrations to a more structured approach focused on dialogue and coordinated action.
Civic Dialogue and Mobilization of Mass Organizations
A secretariat meeting held on Tuesday decided to launch an all-party civic dialogue to expand the movement. Vice-chair Raghuji Pant, Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, and central committee member Min Bahadur Shahi have been assigned to lead the initiative.
The party has also decided to mobilize its affiliated mass organizations in protest against recent government decisions. UML stated that student groups and professional organizations will carry out protest programs in their own ways.
This shift comes after the government announced plans to remove politically affiliated student unions from universities within six months and abolish employee trade unions. UML has criticized these decisions as undemocratic and harmful to political participation.
As part of its response, the party will hold a coordination meeting of mass organizations on Wednesday at 11 AM to finalize further protest plans. Leaders say the KP Oli arrest remains central to the ongoing agitation.
Parliamentary Strategy and Upcoming Plans
The meeting also assigned Vice-chair Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ and Secretary Padma Aryal to strengthen coordination with other political parties and improve parliamentary engagement.
A UML parliamentary party meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 3 PM. Meanwhile, the party plans to convene a central committee meeting soon to outline additional protest programs.
With the KP Oli arrest continuing to drive political tensions, UML is now preparing to advance its movement through a mix of dialogue, organizational mobilization, and parliamentary strategy.
