Sita Badi Becomes Nepal’s First Badi Community Minister, Assumes Office

Sita badi becomes Nepal’s first Wadi community minister and assumes office as Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, marking a significant milestone in representation.

Kathmandu — Sita badi has assumed office as Nepal’s Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, becoming the first person from the badi community to hold a ministerial position in the country.

She became emotional while taking charge, saying she had not imagined reaching such a position. She wiped away tears as she spoke about her journey. badi said she has struggled against caste-based discrimination and poverty throughout her life and described her appointment as a significant moment for marginalized communities.

She said she will carry out her responsibilities with accountability and work actively toward social change. Badi is originally from Birendranagar–14 in Surkhet, Karnali Province, and currently resides in Budhanilkantha–8, Kathmandu.

A proportional representation lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, she continued her education with financial support from social institutions from the age of 13 and completed her undergraduate studies.

After completing her education, she became involved in social work focused on ending discrimination and promoting women’s empowerment. She said she will now work at a broader level to address the issues faced by women and marginalized communities across Nepal.
