Kathmandu — CPN-UML Vice Chair Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the justification for restoring Nepal’s House of Representatives has not yet expired.
Speaking at an interaction program organized by Press Chautari Nepal in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Gurung said that if the dissolved House is reinstated, a government could be formed through it, constitutional amendments could be advanced, and elections could also be conducted.
“If the House of Representatives is restored, all political issues can be addressed through it,” Gurung said. “The validity of restoration still remains, and the possibility exists until formal election campaigning officially begins.”
He said that if the House is not restored, the CPN-UML would not participate in the elections. Gurung also alleged that the government has conspired to withdraw money laundering and organized crime cases involving Rabi Lamichhane.
“The government is deliberately acting to ensure electoral victories for parties and individuals aligned with the conditions that created the current situation,” Gurung said. “That is why we have stated that electoral manipulation has already begun.”
On the issue of electoral cooperation, Gurung said that an immediate alliance with the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal does not appear likely at present, although he noted that politics is ultimately a game of possibilities.
He also said that the CPN-UML and the NCP hold differing views regarding the incidents that occurred on September 8 and 9. Gurung emphasized that democracy is under threat and said cooperation among democratic forces is essential to safeguard it.
