Kathmandu — Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat has called for a coordinated effort within the party to resolve internal differences and move forward with its regular general convention, proposing the formation of an organizing committee that can gain the confidence of all factions.

Call for Consensus Among Party Leadership

In a video message released through his secretariat, Mahat said building common ground among the party’s top leadership is essential at this stage. He noted that only through dialogue and consensus among groups that participated in the special convention and those that did not can the regular general convention be successfully conducted.

He emphasized the importance of bringing the leadership, including party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, onto a unified platform. According to Mahat, if an inclusive and widely accepted mechanism is established, it would create an environment where the leadership emerging from the general convention would be broadly recognized.

Warning Against Fragmented Decisions

The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee has already endorsed a schedule to hold its 15th general convention in October. However, Mahat cautioned that unilateral decisions or parallel approaches by different factions would not provide a lasting solution.

He underlined the need to ensure a credible and transparent process by establishing a body that earns trust across the party. Mahat also stated that continued blame games and debates centered on past actions would not help move the party forward.

Mahat expressed his commitment to contributing toward creating an atmosphere of consensus within the party and said unity within the organization is essential for the Nepali Congress to achieve its political objectives. Notably, Mahat had contested the recent House of Representatives election from Nuwakot-1, where he was defeated.
