Prabhu Sah Calls for Probe Into Nepal House of Representatives Election Transparency
Prabhu Sah has called for an investigation into Nepal’s House of Representatives election, raising concerns over transparency, fairness, and lack of Madhesi Dalit representation.
Kathmandu — Prabhu Sah, chairperson of the Aam Janata Party (AJP) and a former minister, has called for an investigation into the fairness, impartiality, and transparency of Nepal’s House of Representatives election, stating that questions have been raised despite it being described as peaceful.
Concerns Over Election Integrity and Institutional Roles
Addressing a central committee meeting held on Saturday at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, Sah said the election process cannot be considered fully credible under the current circumstances. He stated that although the election was completed without major disturbances, emerging concerns have raised doubts about its overall integrity.
Sah also questioned the roles of the Election Commission and the government, saying that failure to act against violations of the election code of conduct and the inability to prevent one-sided campaigning have raised serious concerns.
He further raised concerns about the neutrality of both traditional media and social media platforms, stating that misuse of fake accounts and the spread of biased content during the election period reflect a failure of authorities to regulate the information environment.
Representation Issues and Call for Farmer Relief
In addition, Sah described the absence of Madhesi Dalit representation in the 275-member House of Representatives as a serious issue. He said the lack of a single representative from the community highlights weaknesses in the constitutional and political system and demanded clarification from the Election Commission.
He added that his party will continue to advocate for greater political inclusion and representation of Madhesi Dalits.
Sah also expressed concern over damage to crops across the country caused by recent storms and hailstorms, calling on the government to provide compensation and immediate relief to farmers affected by losses to wheat, maize, banana, mango, and litchi crops.
