Two Buses Collide, Block Muglin–Narayangadh Road
The collision at Jalbire halted traffic in both directions shortly after overnight restrictions were lifted.
Two buses collided in the Jalbire area shortly after traffic resumed on the Muglin–Narayangadh road section on Sunday morning, bringing movement on the busy highway to a complete halt.
Vehicles are now stranded on both sides of the accident site. Several passengers were injured, but authorities have yet to release the number of injured or details of their condition.
The crash came during the first rush of traffic after an overnight restriction was lifted. A large number of vehicles had been waiting to enter the road section, and the sudden movement created heavy pressure along the route.
Efforts under way to clear the road
The Chitwan Road Division Office said work was under way to remove the two buses and reopen the road.
Until the vehicles are cleared, traffic in both directions will remain affected. Long queues have already formed around the accident area.
The District Administration Office Chitwan had stopped all types of vehicles from using the road section from 10 pm on Saturday after continued rainfall increased the risk of landslides. The restriction was lifted at 6 am on Sunday, allowing traffic to resume.
The collision occurred only a short time later.
Post-closure traffic creates fresh risk
The hours immediately after the road reopens have repeatedly become difficult to manage. Vehicles held overnight tend to move forward at once, while some drivers leave their lanes or increase speed in an effort to get ahead of the queue.
That pressure can turn the reopening itself into another safety risk, even after the immediate threat from rain or landslides has eased.
The administration and the Road Division Office have asked drivers to maintain limited speed and strictly follow lane discipline. Drivers have also been urged not to overtake recklessly or block traffic coming from the opposite direction.
Officials are trying to restore movement as soon as the damaged buses are removed from the road.
