Nepal Police App Lets Citizens File Complaints and Track Cases Online
The Nepal Police mobile app allows users to report crimes, accidents and emergencies, upload evidence, track complaint status and communicate directly with officers.
A smartphone app launched by Nepal Police is beginning to change how citizens report crimes, accidents and other emergencies, offering a direct digital channel between the public and law enforcement.
The service allows people anywhere in Nepal to file complaints through their mobile phones without needing to know the contact details of a local police office. Users can also track the status of their complaints and communicate directly with police through an in-app messaging system.
A Police Complaint System in Your Pocket
The service operates through the Nepal Police mobile application, available on both Android and iPhone devices.
After downloading the app, users must create an account by providing their name, address, phone number and email address. Once logged in, they can access the “Complaint and Application” section from the home screen.
The app provides several categories for reporting incidents, including traffic accidents, theft and robbery, domestic violence, natural disasters, drug trafficking and missing persons.
Those whose concerns do not fall under the listed categories can submit their cases through the “Other Complaints” option.
Users are then asked to describe the incident in detail and select the location where it occurred.
Location-Based Reporting
After choosing a location, the app opens Google Maps.
If location access has been enabled on the device, the app can automatically identify the user’s position. Users can also manually search for and select a location through the map interface.
The system allows complainants to attach supporting evidence, including photographs, videos and audio recordings, before submitting their reports.
Once submitted, the complaint is forwarded to the nearest police office based on the selected location.
Tracking Progress and Chatting With Police
One of the app’s most useful features is the ability to monitor the progress of a complaint.
Users can access the “My Complaints” section on the home screen to view all complaints they have submitted, along with updates on actions taken by police.
The app also includes a messaging feature that enables direct communication between complainants and the police handling their cases.
This allows users to seek updates or clarification without visiting a police station or making repeated phone calls.
A Positive Step Towards Digital Public Services
The launch of the service reflects Nepal’s gradual move toward digital governance and public service delivery.
For citizens, the platform offers a simpler and faster way to seek police assistance, particularly in situations where reaching a police office may be difficult.
Whether the system succeeds on a larger scale will depend on how quickly and effectively police offices across the country respond to complaints received through the platform.
Still, the initiative marks a positive step in expanding digital access to essential public services.
Police Warn Against Misuse
Nepal Police has urged users not to misuse the application by submitting false complaints or misleading information.
According to the police, the system securely records technical details linked to a user’s mobile device, making it easier to identify individuals who intentionally provide false information.
Authorities have therefore asked the public to use the platform responsibly and only submit genuine complaints and reports.
