Families searching for blood during a medical emergency will no longer have to contact multiple blood transfusion centres separately to check availability. A new “Blood Information” portal added to the Nagarik App now allows users to view blood stocks across the country from a single platform.

The service provides real-time information on the blood groups available at participating transfusion centres and the number of units currently in stock.

For patients’ relatives, the system could reduce crucial delays caused by calling centres one after another, often during urgent treatment. It gives families a faster way to identify where the required blood group is available before travelling to a centre.

Real-time blood stock information

According to the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene, the system was integrated into the Nagarik App to make blood transfusion services more effective, transparent and technology-friendly.

The portal is also expected to improve blood management and coordination among transfusion centres. By bringing stock information together, health authorities aim to make it easier to track availability and respond more quickly when demand rises.

The service is expected to be particularly useful during emergency treatment, when locating the required blood group without delay can become a major challenge for patients and their families.
