Sher Bahadur Deuba Highlights Internal Conflicts Affecting Nepali Congress Election Results

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba admits internal conflicts and betrayals have weakened the party’s election prospects. Speaking at a memorial service, he emphasized the urgent need for party unity and indicated his gradual retirement from active politics.

Kathmandu — Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has acknowledged that internal discord and serious betrayal within the party have directly impacted election outcomes. Speaking at a memorial service for leader Gauridevi Pradhan, Deuba emphasized that now is a time for unity and expressed a strong desire to consolidate the party.

He pointed out a critical problem where those who fail to secure party tickets tend to work against their own candidates during elections. “We are facing a drought of unity within ourselves, which is causing us to lose the chance to secure a majority on our own,” Deuba said clearly. “Without a unified mindset and shared goals within the party, we cannot move forward.”

He also accepted the political reality that it is difficult for any single party to achieve a stable majority in the current political structure and that cooperation with various parties is necessary. “Sometimes we have to cooperate with the Maoists, sometimes with the UML — it is a necessity, not a desire,” he stated.

Indication of Political Retirement

Deuba also hinted that he will gradually retire from active politics. “I am slowly preparing to step down,” he said emotionally, “but I want to leave with the hope of uniting the party before I go.”
