Rastriya Swatantra Party Accuses Nepal Government of Politically Targeting Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar

Kathmandu — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has accused Nepal’s ruling coalition of attempting to undermine new political forces by creating disputes around their leaders, including Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar.

Speaking during the special session of the House of Representatives on Thursday, RSP lawmaker Shiva Nepali said that after party president Rabi Lamichhane, the government has now turned its attention toward Deputy Speaker Rana Magar.

“When they could not compete with new forces, they targeted Rabi Lamichhane. Now, they are attacking the daughter of the indigenous community, the Deputy Speaker, through arithmetic games,” Nepali stated.

Politically Motivated Allegations

Nepali argued that the controversy over Rana Magar was deliberately revived to serve political interests. He explained that a letter requesting an interview schedule—neither registered nor implemented—was kept hidden for 17 months before being made public in Shrawan 2081.

“If there was wrongdoing, why was no action taken at the time? Why is it being weaponized now, when constitutional bodies are under discussion?” he questioned.

He noted that the RSP had already called for an independent investigation committee on Shrawan 6, expressing readiness to cooperate, but said the ruling side ignored that request and instead politicized the issue.

Concerns Over Misuse of Authority

The lawmaker warned that repeatedly questioning such a respected parliamentary position undermines both the dignity of the office and public trust. “Turning constitutional positions into political tools is unacceptable. This practice must end,” he emphasized.

Nepali also accused traditional parties of rewriting history and downplaying the contributions of the younger generation. “Our generation has fought in the streets for citizens’ rights and will continue to do so. No one has the authority to diminish that struggle,” he said.
