Rabi Lamichhane was elected unopposed as party president, while Swarnim Wagle emerged as the highest vote-getter in the Central Committee election.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has completed the first phase of leadership selection at its first national general convention, electing a 99-member Central Committee led by party president Rabi Lamichhane, who was elected unopposed. The outcome marks the party’s first major organizational restructuring since its rapid rise in national politics and offers an early indication of the leaders who command the strongest backing within its internal ranks.

The convention began on June 21 and was originally scheduled to conclude on June 23. It was extended by one day after delays in finalizing the list of delegates, distributing identity cards, resolving disputes related to delegates, and completing the verification process.

Leadership Selection Completed

The newly elected Central Committee has been formed through open, inclusive and provincial representation categories.

Representation has been ensured through:

  • 20 members from the open category
  • 10 from the Khas Arya cluster
  • 9 from the Indigenous Nationalities cluster
  • 2 from the Tharu community
  • 5 from the Madhesi community
  • 4 from the Dalit community
  • 2 from the Muslim community
  • Five representatives each from all seven provinces

While the party has completed the first phase of leadership selection, the composition of the Central Committee also reflects its effort to institutionalize inclusion alongside competitive internal elections.

Top Vote Getters

Economist and lawmaker Swarnim Wagle secured the highest number of votes in the Central Committee election with 2,607 votes.

He was followed by Sobita Gautam, Shishir Khanal, Sagar Dhakal and Tosima Karki, all of whom emerged among the party’s strongest performers in the election.
