Pushpa Kamal Dahal Warns Over Communist Movement Threat
Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal says domestic and foreign forces are trying to weaken the Nepali Communist Party movement
Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday warned that both domestic and foreign forces were working systematically to weaken the Nepali Communist Party movement in Nepal, calling on communist parties to unite and reassess their direction.
Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu to mark the 26th memorial day of Nirmal Lama, Dahal said the communist movement was facing coordinated pressure from reactionary elements and stressed that communist leaders must recognize the seriousness of the situation.
He also said that failure to address internal weaknesses and rebuild unity within the movement would amount to a betrayal of working-class people who have long supported communist politics in the country.
Dahal Raises Concern Over Communist Movement
During his address at the memorial event, Dahal claimed that organized efforts were being made to eliminate the Nepali Communist Party movement from Nepal. He said the campaign against communist forces was not limited to domestic actors but also involved foreign interests.
According to him, the current political environment demands serious reflection from communist leaders and parties. He argued that ignoring the challenges facing the movement could create long-term political consequences.
Dahal stated that communist groups should no longer avoid difficult discussions regarding their own shortcomings and declining unity.
Call for Internal Review Among Communist Parties
The former prime minister emphasized the need for self-evaluation within communist parties operating in Nepal. He said leaders must first examine internal problems before attempting to regain public trust.
He stressed that communist organizations should correct past mistakes through honest political review and collective responsibility. According to Dahal, reform within the parties is essential if they want to remain connected with ordinary citizens and workers.
He also suggested that internal division had weakened the broader communist movement and reduced its effectiveness in addressing national issues.
Appeal for Greater Unity
Dahal said there was no alternative to unity among communist forces in Nepal. He called on different groups and leaders to move forward together and launch political activities with renewed commitment.
According to him, fragmented politics has created confusion within the movement and weakened its influence. He argued that rebuilding solidarity would be necessary for any future political struggle.
The former prime minister also noted that unity should not remain limited to slogans, but should instead be reflected through practical cooperation and shared political direction.

Memorial Event Focuses on Political Direction
The event was organized to commemorate Nirmal Lama, a prominent figure remembered within Nepal’s communist political history. Along with paying tribute, the gathering also became a platform for discussions about the future of leftist politics in the country.
Dahal used the occasion to highlight broader concerns regarding political organization, ideological commitment, and public confidence in communist leadership.
His remarks reflected growing debate within communist circles over how parties should respond to political challenges and internal disagreements.
Warning Linked to Future of Working-Class Politics
Dahal argued that communist leaders have a responsibility toward workers and ordinary citizens who continue to support leftist political ideals. He warned that failing to confront weaknesses inside the movement could damage public trust.
According to him, communist parties must show courage in accepting mistakes and taking corrective action. He said avoiding reform would ultimately hurt the interests of laborers and supporters who expect political accountability.
He also suggested that political renewal would only be possible if communist organizations adopted a more united and disciplined approach.
Renewed Political Movement Suggested
In his speech, Dahal said communist parties should prepare to move ahead with a fresh political strategy after strengthening unity and internal coordination.
He stressed that the movement could not progress through division and rivalry alone. Instead, he argued for collective efforts aimed at rebuilding public confidence and reorganizing political activities.
The remarks come at a time when discussions about ideological direction, cooperation among communist groups, and political realignment continue to shape debate within Nepal’s leftist politics.
