Kathmandu — President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the contributions made by generations of ancestors were instrumental in transforming Nepal from a collection of small, scattered states into the sovereign nation it is today.
In a message issued on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day, President Poudel said Prithvi Narayan Shah unified the fragmented states of the time and laid the foundation for the modern Nepali nation.
“Remembering Prithvi Narayan Shah, it is clear that through the unification of Nepal he established national independence and a shared identity of modern Nepal. His Divya Upadesh remains equally popular and relevant even today,” President Poudel said in the message.
The president said Shah’s teachings continue to provide guidance in building a strong national economy, fostering patriotism, maintaining diplomatic relations with neighboring countries, preserving religion, culture, and traditions, ensuring public welfare and state responsibility, promoting justice and good governance, and strengthening national unity.
President Poudel said the nation-building campaign was carried forward by brave ancestors across different historical periods, enabling Nepal to stand today as a sovereign and independent country.
He said that, based on this historical foundation, Nepal has been constitutionally structured as an independent, indivisible, sovereign, secular, inclusive, and socialism-oriented federal democratic republican state.
Concluding the message, President Poudel expressed hope that National Unity Day would inspire all citizens to safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity while working toward the happiness and prosperity of the people.
