Kathmandu — The Nepali Congress is set to convene a meeting of its Central Working Committee on Friday, according to a notice issued by the party office. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the party’s central headquarters.
Members of the Central Working Committee elected through the recently concluded Special General Convention, along with provincial committee presidents, have been invited to attend the meeting. This will be the first formal meeting of the party’s new leadership following the convention.
The party elected a new Central Working Committee under the leadership of Gagan Thapa during the Special General Convention held on December 30. As part of Friday’s program, Chairperson Thapa and other office bearers are scheduled to formally assume their responsibilities.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the newly formed committee will hold its first official meeting at the central office. Previously, Central Committee meetings were held in Kupandole and New Baneshwor.
Party sources said the meeting may take several important decisions related to the party’s future political course. According to a senior party official, one such decision could involve formally declaring Chairperson Thapa as the party’s candidate for prime minister.
Chairperson Thapa is contesting the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for February 21 from Sarlahi Constituency No. 4. In this context, the meeting is being viewed as significant for shaping the party’s electoral strategy and leadership direction.
