Kathmandu — Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), KP Sharma Oli, has said he fully respects and accepts the results of the recently concluded House of Representatives election, stating that the people’s verdict is the final decision in a democratic system.

In a statement posted on Facebook after the election results were finalized, Oli said that in a democracy the ultimate authority lies with the people and that it is the duty of both him and his party to accept that decision with respect. He acknowledged that the outcome of the election did not meet his expectations but emphasized that the public mandate must be honored.

Oli Acknowledges Election Outcome

Oli said that although he had expected a different outcome in the election, the results must be accepted as the democratic choice of the people. He stressed that respecting the people’s decision is an important responsibility for both himself and the party.

Oli Thanks Voters and Party Supporters

Oli expressed gratitude to voters, party leaders, cadres, volunteers, well-wishers, and supporters who stood with the CPN-UML during the election. He thanked those who cast their votes for the party’s election symbol, the sun, despite the difficult circumstances.

He said the trust shown by supporters remains the party’s greatest strength and added that the party’s commitment to serving the people has not weakened despite the election outcome.

Election Results and Jhapa-5 Defeat

In the House of Representatives election, the CPN-UML secured nine seats under the first-past-the-post electoral system and 16 seats through the proportional representation system. Oli himself was defeated in Jhapa-5, where he contested against senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balen Shah.

Despite the defeat, Oli said the party will move forward by respecting the people’s decision and will continue working to regain public confidence in the future.
