Benjamin Netanyahu has directed his cabinet to begin direct Israel–Lebanon talks, focusing on disarming Hezbollah, a move that comes amid escalating cross-border violence. The push signals a potential diplomatic opening but risks being overshadowed by intensifying military strikes.

The announcement, reported by CNN, highlights a sharp dual-track strategy—negotiation alongside continued military pressure—raising concerns over whether talks can progress under fire.

Direct Talks Push Amid Rising Tensions

Netanyahu said the decision followed repeated requests from Lebanon for direct negotiations. He instructed officials to move “as soon as possible,” signaling urgency in addressing long-standing security concerns.

However, Israel has made clear that the talks would center on a single core demand: the disarmament of Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group that has been launching attacks from Lebanese territory.

Deadly Strikes Undermine Diplomatic Momentum
