Five-Year-Old Killed in Salamkot Wall Collapse
The child, Ashish Bhandari of Badigad Rural Municipality-5, had been staying with his maternal family in Salamkot for some time.
The wall came down suddenly while he was playing outside the house, burying him under the debris.
Relatives pulled Ashish out and rushed him to Burtibang Provincial Hospital. Health workers declared him dead on arrival, according to Sub-Inspector Sudip Bhattarai of the Burtibang Area Police Office.
Police believe the accident occurred when the main wall supporting a raised platform of the house collapsed. The structure stood on difficult terrain, and the platform had been built on unstable ground.
The death has also brought attention to the danger posed by weak household structures in steep settlements, where small courtyards often serve as children’s everyday play spaces.
