Trump Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Iran to Reopen Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Oil Prices

Donald Trump has warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face U.S. strikes on key power infrastructure, as tensions disrupt global oil supply.

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding that it fully reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Iran must ensure the waterway is fully accessible within the given timeframe. He warned that failure to comply would lead to serious consequences.

According to Trump, if Iran does not reopen the Strait within 48 hours, the United States will begin targeting Iran’s major power generation facilities, starting with the largest sites.

Rising Tensions in Strait of Hormuz Disrupt Global Oil Supply

The Strait of Hormuz carries more than 20 percent of the world’s petroleum and fuel supplies, making it one of the most critical routes for global energy trade. Tensions have escalated as Iran has reportedly targeted vessels linked to the United States, Israel, and allied countries, pushing the waterway toward near closure, according to multiple reports.

Reports also suggest that Indian vessels have been allowed to pass through the route. This follows India expressing condolences over the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, after which Iran is said to have permitted Indian ships to transit.

Oil Prices Surge Amid Strait of Hormuz Crisis

The disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has led to a sharp rise in global oil prices. Crude oil, which was trading at around $70 per barrel before the conflict, has increased to over $100 within three weeks. Despite the United States releasing oil from its reserves into the market, prices have not stabilized.

Iran’s current Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is widely considered more hardline than his predecessor. He had previously instructed Iranian military forces to continue operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump Signals Mixed Approach on Iran Action

On Friday, Trump said that most objectives of U.S. strikes on Iran had been achieved, claiming that Iran’s missile capabilities, defense systems, and nuclear program had been significantly weakened.

He also indicated that he was considering reducing military action against Iran. However, Trump later emphasized that the security of the Strait of Hormuz should also be the responsibility of other countries using the route. He added that the United States would be ready to assist if requested.

Despite earlier remarks about scaling back, Trump’s renewed warning signals a continued hardline stance on Iran.
